Imran Khan was born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan, to a Pashtun family. His father, Ikramullah Khan Niazi, was a civil engineer and his mother, Shaukat Khanum, was a homemaker. He has four sisters and one brother. Khan’s paternal ancestors were ethnic Pashtuns from Afghanistan who had migrated to Mianwali in the Punjab region of British India in the 18th century. His mother’s family came from the Multan region of British India. His maternal grandfather, Hafiz Sher Mohammad Khan, was a religious scholar and Sufi shaikh.
