Who is Elon Musk?

The founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk, is responsible for launching a landmark commercial spacecraft in 2012. (later PayPal), SpaceX, and Tesla Motors were founded by him in 1999, 2002, and 2003, respectively. Musk became a multimillionaire when he sold Zip2 to Compaq Computers in his late 20s.

After college, Musk co-founded a software company called Zip2, which provided online news and information to newspapers. In 1999, the company was acquired by Compaq for nearly $300 million. Musk used the proceeds from the sale to co-found, an online payment company that eventually became PayPal. In 2002, eBay acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion.

Since then, Musk has focused on several ambitious projects. He founded SpaceX in 2002 to reduce space transportation costs and enable Mars’s colonization.
